Laurentia Spirek is a poet and creative writer based in the Midwest of the U.S.
In a word, or a few…
After winning a Scholastic Art & Writing Award in 2019 for my writing portfolio consisting of sonnets, free-form poems, critical essays, flash fiction comedy, and space-fantasy vignettes, I have since aspired to publish my works and share them with the world.
From book-length poetry collections to poignant critical memoirs to a 6-part space-fantasy epic, my ongoing writing projects encompass a diverse array of literary artforms and genres. These projects appeal to readers seeking to introspect and ruminate about the world around us, or to explore and immerse themselves in distant worlds that never were.
With my poetry and memoirs, I hope to artistically express my own queer and autistic experience of the human condition through ravishing rhymes and riveting reason. Imbued with intense emotion, I poignantly explore the depths of heartbreak, grief, trauma, love, joy, and euphoria alike through a myriad of poetic forms in my poetry collections.
Layered with lived experience, I unpack the sordid history of applied behavior analysis (ABA), and expounds its impact not only on my life, but the lives of autistic people worldwide in service of neuroconformist assimilation in my critical memoir.
In my 6-book space fantasy epic titled Sohlmulacrum, I intend to convey how power accumulates and reinforces itself through the co-option of competing interests and radical opposition—even at the expense of its own resources—amid the vastness of space and the immensity of time. In Sohlmulacrum’s universe, empires grasp at all possible straws across Andromeda and the Milky Way Galaxies, and throughout the 2 billion years of narrative history. From insectoids extending their meager lifespans to rule their expansive domains for millions of years, to decolonized species collaborating with their cosmic colonizers to safeguard life itself, Sohlmulacrum’s scope is ambitiously far-reaching, and seeks to hold up a mirror to the abyss of human history, reflecting back exploration and exploitation in kind.
